The Worst Reality TV Shows Ever Created

If you've ever clicked on the TV after a long day in search of a junky show, you're not alone. Whether you're addicted to The Bachelor or Keeping Up with the Kardashians, you just can't seem to get enough of the guiltiest of guiltiest pleasures: reality TV.

Sometimes, the whole "reality" part gets a bit confusing, of course, but that just seems to make it even better (or worse?). Tune in to these 30 worst reality TV shows ever created to enjoy some laughter, some disgust and every emotion in between. Some are no longer on the air, but that's what streaming is for!

Rock of Love

Whether you love hair bands or not, Bret Michaels isn't exactly an A-list celebrity anymore. However, that didn't stop dozens of young women from vying for his attention on Rock of Love. Created in July 2007, the former lead singer of Poison literally made women jump through hoops for him.

The craziest part is that this nonsensical show lasted a whopping three seasons, spanning a period of two years. Even better, he was offered the chance to film the wacky show for a fourth season, but he had to turn it down due to the filming of a second show he did for VH1.

My Super Sweet 16

When you turn on the TV and switch to MTV's My Super Sweet 16, you're carried away into an alternate world of privileged teens with too much money and too little time to spend it. (Must be tough, right?) With famous celebrity parents, these teens are lavished with expensive gifts like new cars and intimate backstage passes to meet their favorite artists.

The best part is the show didn't just feature teen girls. In fact, several young men made appearances on the show to celebrate their special day in style. From Quinceaneras to debutante balls, this show had everything from glitz and glamour to temper tantrums.

Toddlers & Tiaras

Toddlers & Tiaras will forever go down in history as one of the most controversial reality TV shows of all time. Starring young girls dressed up in fancy clothes and heels and sporting pounds of makeup, this show focused on the age-old tradition of child beauty pageants. Featured from December 2008 to October 2013, this TLC show spent years on the shelf after its first season.

However, Toddlers & Tiaras was relaunched as Another Toddlers & Tiaras a mere three years later. Diving deep into the personal lives of the families, this kooky show was canceled in late 2016 but still entertains via streaming.

Here Comes Honey Boo Boo

Here Comes Honey Boo Boo single-handedly changed America during the early 2000s. Aired by TLC, this child beauty pageant show followed the lives of Alana "Honey Boo Boo" Thompson and her family. Of course, Honey Boo Boo originally got her start on the show mentioned above, Toddlers & Tiaras.

Her individual star rose as her show grew in popularity from 2012 to 2014. In fact, Honey Boo Boo and Mama June stole the nation's attention with their riveting — also bumbling — adventures around McIntyre, Georgia. It's a real shame critics didn't like this show!

The Real Housewives

Premiering in March 2006, The Real Housewives franchise first entered the scene with its flagship show, The Real Housewives of Orange County. Documenting the so-called "real lives" of several ultra-wealthy women, this hilarious show quickly expanded to include women in New York City, Atlanta and New Jersey.

The bizarre success didn't stop there, and shows were later added for Washington, D.C., Beverly Hills, Miami, Potomac and Dallas as well as several international cities. In short, the shows take you on a thrilling ride inside lives filled with as much high drama as there is high society. No matter which one you choose, it's so bad — it's good!

Storage Wars

Released in late 2010, you can thank A&E Network's Storage Wars for showing the world how valuable your boxes of junk could really be. Here's how it goes: When someone fails to pay on their storage unit for several months, the items inside are auctioned to a hungry crowd of vulturous buyers.

This zany reality TV show follows several eager buyers as they go through dusty lockers in search of rare and priceless items. At the end of the show, they tally up their seemingly worthless items to see who racked up the most dough. It gives you eternal hope of finding some rare Pound Puppies in your attic.

Wife Swap

Wife Swap was recently renewed for its 11th season, which is further proof that America has super low standards when it comes to entertainment. ABC's Wife Swap first shocked the world in 2004 with its morally questionable premise: Two families from completely different backgrounds swap wives and mothers for a period of two weeks.

Intended to flip family dynamics on its head, Wife Swap usually exchanged an extra tidy woman with an extremely messy substitute. Better yet, some episodes featured a swap of a meat-eating wife with a vegan fanatic. Needless to say, hilarity ensued every single time!

Cheaters

A weekly indulgence for many, Cheaters is an American reality TV show with a hidden camera twist. Investigating the shady lives of supposed cheaters, host Bobby Goldstein's entire job is to catch adulterer's in the act of cheating on their spouses. Currently airing on The CW Plus, Cheaters is fueled by angry partners who are convinced their significant others are sneaking around behind their backs.

Starting with a painfully awkward interview with an upset, suspicious spouse, this show follows investigators as they spend several weeks spying on a potentially cheating partner. It gets worse: They even put hidden cameras in the cheater's home!

Punk'd

Another hidden camera reality TV show, Punk'd originally starred Ashton Kutcher as a master celebrity prankster in 2003. Shown on MTV, this Candid Camera knockoff featured Kutcher pulling the wool over the eyes of multiple celebrities, including Beyonce.

Kutcher even recruited other famous stars like B.J. Novak and Dax Shepard as accomplices on his ridiculously childish show. What happened down the line was even crazier: BET rebooted the show on one of its new networks. From stealing Frankie Muniz's custom Porsche to convincing Justin Timberlake he was under arrest, Punk'd really did take some insane pranks to the next level.

Big Brother

Big Brother is quite possibly the creepiest, most intrusive reality TV show ever aired. Originally filmed in the Netherlands, this up-close-and-personal program shows contestants who live in a remote house, completely cut off from the rest of the world. As if that's not creepy enough, they're constantly monitored 24-hours-a-day by cameras and microphones that are just out of their eyesight and earshot.

Each week, the members vote one another off the show until there's only one "house guest" left standing. The reward for participating in this voyeuristic project is a meager cash prize. How nice!

RuPaul's Drag Race

For those who are unaware, RuPaul's Drag Race is a hot mess of a show starring famous drag queen RuPaul and his colorful contestants. During the show, RuPaul mentors wannabee drag queens on the art of being fierce and fabulous. Every week, a panel of judges, including Santino Rice and Michelle Visage, judge the drag divas on how they walk, talk and rock the runway.

Photo Courtesy: Mark Boster/Los Angeles Times/Getty Images

Spanning 11 seasons to-date, RuPaul's Drag Race has even spawned two equally ridiculous spin-off shows, RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars and RuPaul's Drag U. This crazy show has also expanded to Australia, Canada and Israel.

90 Day Fiancé

Proving that there's truly no such thing as "happily ever after," 90 Day Fiancé is part documentary, part reality TV show. Featured by TLC, the show follows random couples who are forced to marry each other within a super tight timeline in order to fix their visa issues. Incredibly, some of the unlucky couples only have five days to get to know each other before walking down the aisle together.

In other cases, the would-be spouses agree to marry each other after only communicating online for a couple of months. What's even more unbelievable is that this atrocious — and what about potentially illegal? — show has spawned several spin-offs!

Keeping Up with the Kardashians

This goes without saying, but Keeping Up with the Kardashians is one of the most pointless shows to ever air on television. Starring scandalous reality TV star Kim Kardashian, this show started off following the vain members of the Kardashian family and now follows Kim's marriage to Kanye West and her relationship with family members like Kourtney and Khloe Kardashian.

If that's not enough, you also get the ultra snobby Jenner side, which includes Kylie, Kendall, Kris and now Caitlyn (formerly Bruce). Beyond the bored sisters texting each other and checking their social media accounts, this program is the ultimate display of luxury and privilege, minus the talent.

Love Island

Starting in early 2005, Love Island became a staple gossip reality TV show in the United Kingdom. Starring washed-up celebrities on a stranded island, the show was filled with competition, drama and — you guessed it — drunk, sloppy love. This was just what America ordered, and CBS quickly demanded an American version of the show to be released in late 2018.

It would be a lie to say the show wasn't incredibly entertaining, but it was captivating for all the wrong reasons. Fueled by alcohol, the cast was enough to make you hurl your remote at your TV — while sipping your own Mai Tai, of course.

The Bachelor

Starring the surprisingly lackluster host Chris Harrison, The Bachelor is another reality TV show that just doesn't make any sense. Every season features a grossly ineligible bachelor having the time of his life choosing from a bevy of beauties willing to fight for him when they don't even know him. Sure. The worst part? The couple rarely stays together after the cameras stop rolling. That's what you call time wasted.

Despite this ironic fact, The Bachelor has inspired several more incredibly shallow spin-offs, including Bachelor in Paradise, Bachelor Pad and The Bachelorette. Not to mention awful reboots like The Bachelor Winter Games and Bachelor in Paradise: After Paradise. "Yuck" doesn't even begin to cover it.

Paris Hilton's My New BFF

Paris Hilton's My New BFF is dedicated to lonely souls who feel like a superstar best friend is a must-have. Created in 2008, this tacky reality TV program followed 16 girls and three boys as they competed to become Paris' right-hand confidante. Paris added a host of irrelevant guests like Benji Madden, Perez Hilton and Dirt Nasty to the show as well.

Clearly, Paris Hilton's relationship with her first bestie didn't last forever, considering the program was renewed for a second season in June 2009. As for her original BFF, Paris says: "Sometimes people get too caught up, and they change."

The Anna Nicole Smith Show

First of all, rest in peace to Anna Nicole Smith. Remembered as a prescription-powered diva, Anna Nicole's failed attempts to stay relevant were documented pretty accurately on The Anna Nicole Smith Show. In fact, this early reality TV show was so bad that critics called it "an obscene trainwreck."

Not only did it show Anna Nicole Smith at her absolute worst point, but it gave the world a candid glimpse of her sad, slurring state. Criticized almost immediately, The Anna Nicole Smith Show was marketed by E! as the following: "It's not supposed to be funny — it just is!" How true that was.

Teen Mom

Okay, raise your hand if you became obsessed with this disastrous show when it first aired in December 2009. As a spin-off of 16 and Pregnant, Teen Mom gave the world the gift of more time with Farrah Abraham, Maci Bookout, Catelynn Lowell and Amber Portwood. Together, America cringed as these young girls fumbled through the rites of adulthood and parenthood with the whole nation watching.

In case you missed it, the show even added Sarah Palin's daughter, Bristol Palin, to the crew of wayward women in 2018, but she announced her departure in early 2019. This disastrous show has already spiraled into several sickly entertaining sequels.

Jersey Shore

In case you didn't know, Jersey Shore was one of the most entertaining reality TV shows of all time — for all the wrong reasons. Starting in December 2009, this train wreck of a show ran all the way until 2012. In the meantime, America fell in love with original cast members like Snooki, Vinny, Jenni, Pauly D and Mike the Situation.

Set on the lovely shores of New Jersey, the show followed the cast doing their favorite thing: GTL (gym, tan, laundry). When they weren't getting shredded at the gym, they were either starting drama at the house or tanning at the beach.

Born in the Wild

If you're familiar with the concept, you can probably agree that Born in the Wild is the most dangerous reality TV show ever filmed. If not, the whole premise of the show revolves around sending an expectant couple into the wild to have a "natural birthing experience" with Mother Nature as a midwife. With no medical experts or modern medicine on hand, the couple is forced to successfully deliver their baby in the middle of nowhere.

It's no wonder that this irresponsible show has been criticized by real-life doctors for its risky birthing method. Considering the program's suspense is based on a life or death scenario, it's only for those who like some cruelty with their entertainment.

Britney and Kevin: Chaotic

If you missed Britney and Kevin: Chaotic in 2005, you're not alone. The amazingly short-lived series only lasted for five episodes. If you're wondering who to blame for this terribly tasteless reality TV show, you can thank director Anthony E. Zuiker.

Photo Courtesy: Albert L. Ortega/Getty Images

Starring then-married Britney Spears and Kevin Federline, the ill-fated show was only aired on UPN for less than 30 days. During that brief window, the world was given an inside look at Britney and Kevin's malfunctioning relationship. Called "career suicide" by critics, this show was a new low for Spears during a time when she had a lot of lows.

For the Love of Ray J

There's a reason so many viewers tuned in week after week to watch For the Love of Ray J. Similar to Rock of Love, I Love New York and Flavor of Love, the show supposedly centered around Ray J falling for the love of his life.

About the egocentric show, Ray J said: "I've been with a lot of women, but I'm ready to get out. I want to do this show to find a ride or die chick, a chick that makes me want to get out of the game." How charming! What a shocker that he failed to find a suitable "chick" across two seasons.

My Fair Brady

For those who haven't seen this corny show yet, Christopher Knight of The Brady Bunch falls in love with his much younger wife, Adrianne Curry. While it was arguably another gold-digging celebrity marriage, Knight and Curry attempted to show the world their love was real when they first met on another reality TV show, The Surreal Life.

Photo Courtesy: Don Ramney Logan/Wikimedia Commons

Of course, Knight and Curry had to pitch their "age-inappropriate" relationship to the producers of The Surreal Life, who promptly had the couple sign a contract. Originally called Beauty and the Brady, this boring show was an absolute flop. Apparently, nothing beats The Brady Bunch!

Dating Naked

Dating Naked is a scandalous VH1 show that debuted in 2014. Centered around contestants who spend their days completely in the nude, the program features rugged participants surviving on an island in a remote location. As if this wasn't strange enough, the show was expanded to a second season in the Philippines. Called Dating Naked: Playing for Keeps, the second season was filled with more — you guessed it — unabashed nudity.

For season three, the naked gang relocated to a location in Bora Bora, where the nudist-friendly survivalists continued to bare it all for the world to see. Thankfully, this exhibitionist show was canceled.

Are You Hot? The Search for America's Sexiest People

If you haven't seen Are You Hot? The Search for America's Sexiest People, you're in for an incredibly narcissistic treat if you watch it. Hosted by questionably attractive judges Randolph Duke, Rachel Hunter and Lorenzo Lamas, the show paraded hopeful contestants across the stage for America to cruelly critique.

Photo Courtesy: Carol Kaelson/Walt Disney Television/Getty Images

With some moments that bordered on body shaming, this egocentric show scoured the nation for the sexiest people in America. After failing miserably in the ratings department, the show was thankfully canceled after just one season. Howard Stern later sued the program, claiming they stole the idea from his radio talk show. That sounds about right.

The Moment of Truth

The Moment of Truth is truly one of the most embarrassing reality TV programs ever created. Based on the Colombian show called Nothing but the Truth, the American version made awkward contestants answer a series of increasingly personal questions in pursuit of a cash prize.

With Mark L. Walberg as the host, this tremendous failure of a reality TV show was canceled after about a year. Although FOX tried to keep the sinking ship afloat, the audience became more and more uncomfortable with the nature of the questions. Surprisingly, one female contestant revealed that she cheated on her partner!

I Wanna Marry Harry

You know and love Prince Harry, of course, but this show didn't feature the real British royal. Starring a red-headed lookalike named Matthew Hicks, the show led the brainless contestants to believe that the imposter was the real Prince Harry. After four ridiculous episodes, ABC pulled the show from the air.

Here's the thing. The four unaired episodes of this insane show are available to watch online. So, if you have a thing for Prince Harry lookalikes and women who are easily fooled, this show could be right up your alley. As for the opinions of most viewers, thank goodness it was over quickly!

House of Carters

Think about it: Aaron Carter and Nick Carter basically ruled in the early 2000s in the pop music department. So, maybe it's only natural they would decide to create a joint reality TV show called House of Carters. Part documentary, part digital junk food, this E! show gave us a behind the scenes look at former Backstreet Boy Nick Carter and his life with his family in Los Angeles.

Premiering in late 2006, Aaron and Nick Carter tried to show the world the meaning of family in between Nick's recording of the sixth Backstreet Boys album called Unbreakable. After eight episodes, the show was done.

Flavor of Love

Flavor Flav's monstrous show, Flavor of Love, was equal parts entertaining and horrifying. Starring aging hip hop star Flavor Flav as an object of affection, several women tried to outdo each other to catch his attention and, ultimately, his heart.

Basically an exploitative show, some viewers questioned if Flavor Flav's romances with his contestants were even real. At the very least, you can definitely say Flavor Flav enjoyed being the center of attention of countless women. Although he didn't seem to find love, he sure had some fun trying. In the end, maybe that's all that really matters to viewers of this type of show.

The Ashlee Simpson Show

Don't worry if you don't remember watching The Ashlee Simpson Show. Starring pop singer Jessica Simpson's little sister, the show mostly documented Ashlee shopping and singing her heart out. Unfortunately, Ashlee Simpson just didn't have much going for her in terms of musical talent.

Of course, she doesn't see things that way. In fact, Ashlee Simpson was once quoted as saying, "I have those songs as well. It depends on what I'm going through in my life, but I'm a huge fan of Bjork. Sometimes I get so emotional because she's so amazing."

Longevity In The Bedroom

Longevity In The Bedroom

How long does your sex last?

If you don't want to share, here's what the stats say. The average sex session is 5-7 minutes, but 50% of guys last less than 2 minutes.

And when you give guys some anonymity, they admit it. The most popular response to a reddit poll on "how long does sex normally last" was 1-2 minutes.

That's a major problem.

The reported ideal length of sex is between 10 and 25 minutes, and 80% of guys suffer from some form of premature ejaculation and can't pull that off.

Both men and women want longer lasting sex, but guys lack the sexual stamina to make it happen.

I had this same problem. I tried EVERYTHING to improve it. Eventually, I figured out what worked, but figuring it out was a huge pain in the ass. The advice floating around the Internet is terrible, and I suspect that most of it is written by people who haven't dealt with the problem.

Which brings us here. Me drinking enough wine to talk about sex on the Internet. We're going to cover a lot, so be ready to take notes.

I'll start with step one: addressing the psychological factors behind lasting longer.

Step two is the exercises you can do to start lasting longer.

Finally, step three is what to do during sex to make sure you last as long as possible.

And to help you in the process, be sure to download the app, Stamena, which will help train you to last longer .

Step 1: Reduce Your Sexual Anxiety

If you go into sex thinking that you won't last very long, you won't. Sliding in with any sort of anxiety about your sexual abilities will make you cum much faster than you want to.

And if you consider it biologically, it makes sense. The insecurity makes you anxious. Your body can tell that you're anxious. The anxiety suggests that this isn't a very safe environment for you to be naked with your eyes closed and unprepared to defend against one of these.

So what does your body do when you're anxious during sex? It reduces the amount of time you're in a vulnerable state by subjecting you to either premature ejaculation, or erectile dysfunction.

The only cure is to approach sex with a confident, positive outlook on how you're going to perform.

The best way to do that? Talk to your partner about it.

If you bring up your concerns about how long you're lasting and that you want to work on it with them, they're not going to think less of you. Rather, they'll think higher of you for wanting to improve your sex life together, and want to work on it with you.

It's nothing to be ashamed or embarrassed about, and you'll find that just being open about it will solve half the problem on its own.

No partner? No worries. You can easily do the exercises without one.

Step 2: Daily Exercises for Lasting Longer

There are only two things you need to do regularly to control premature ejaculation: kegel exercises and masturbation practice.

Exercise 1: Kegels and Reverse Kegels (less than 10 mins / day)

If you do nothing else in this article, do this.

The best way to improve your ejaculatory control is the strengthen the muscles that control ejaculation. Makes sense, right? You do that through kegel exercises, and reverse kegels, which train your pelvic floor muscles to help you control when you ejaculate.

If you've never heard of kegels before, I wrote more in-depth articles on kegel exercises for men, and reverse kegels, to help you out. But you can get by with the abbreviated version below if you're familiar with it.

Here's what I want you to do:

  1. Get naked (I told you this would be fun).
  2. Put a finger or two on the skin between your legs behind your balls, but before your anus.
  3. Now imagine you're trying to stop yourself from peeing. Flex that muscle. (This is also the muscle you flex to make your penis "dance" when it's hard. Don't give me that look, I know you've done it).
  4. You should feel some movement where you put your fingers, and you might feel movement in your penis and balls.
  5. Don't flex your ass like you're trying to show off your glutes, don't flex your legs, and don't flex your abs. Focus just on flexing that muscle.
  6. If you're really having trouble finding it, then drink a bunch of water, go pee, and try to stop yourself. There it is.

This is called your Pubococcygeus muscle, PC muscle, or pelvic floor, and while it can control the flow of urine, it also controls your ejaculation.

Strengthening it will make you last longer, and eventually even allow you to stop yourself from reaching the "point of no return" and quickly bring yourself down from near orgasm.

To train it, we're going to tie small weights to your penis, then you're going to get hard and flex it to lift the weights.

Okay just kidding, it's a little easier than that.

All you have to do to train your pelvic floor is "kegel exercises" which involve flexing it repeatedly, and "reverse kegel exercises" which involve pushing out on it repeatedly.

But, like any muscle, you can't do the same thing over and over again and expect it to get much stronger. You need to keep increasing the difficulty.

The best way to do this is to use the app "Stamena" that gives you specific directions on how long to clench and push for, and the different speeds to do it at. If you're on Android, you can use Kegel Trainer.

As you do more of it, you "level up" in the app and start holding and pressing for longer and for more repetitions. You'll start seeing serious improvements in your sexual longevity around level 8+.

‍I assume this would have a really high conversion rate on Tinder

I set a reminder in the app to ping me 3 times a day to make sure I didn't forget. You don't have to do it that frequently, once a day is fine, but doing it 2 to 3 times a day will get you there faster.

Once you get to level 20+ you can cut back and just do it for maintenance. But like any muscle, when you stop using it you'll get weaker. So keep training.

Exercise 2: Masturbation & Edging (10-30 mins / day)

If you want to last longer, you have to start masturbating differently.

Many guys who have trouble lasting a long time have gotten themselves into bad habits from how they masturbate.

If you typically open the spank bank, go full jackhammer on your dick and finish up in a minute or two then yeah, you're not going to have very much staying power with the real deal.

Here's your new rule for masturbating: nothing less than 10 minutes. I don't care if you have to spend 8 of those minutes just staring at it, you can't let yourself cum in less than 10 minutes. Once that's comfortable, up it to 15, then 20.

Now, here's what you should be doing during those 10 minutes.

When a guy isn't lasting very long in bed, it's because his "pleasure graph" is looking something like this:

A quick escalation straight to cumming. To last longer, you're going to train yourself to have your "pleasure graph" look more like this:

This is done through "edging," which you'll do during sex later but also need to incorporate into your masturbation.

Here's how it works:

  1. Start masturbating, and get yourself up to a 7 out of 10 on the arousal scale. (You'll just have to subjectively decide what this is for you, it'll be easier to identify with practice).
  2. Stop, and let yourself simmer down to a 5.
  3. Now work up to an 8, and then stop again and let yourself slide down to a 6.
  4. Up to 9, down to 7
  5. Up to 9.5, down to 7 again. A 9.5 is just before the point of no return when you know there's nothing you can do.
  6. Repeat the 9.5 to 7 cycle over and over again until you get past 10 minutes. Then you can let yourself go, and you'll notice this also makes your orgasms MUCH stronger.

As you're getting more aroused, remember the STAB technique to slow yourself down:

  1. Squeeze: Squeeze your PC muscles HARD like you're doing an intense kegel. Hold them for at least 10 seconds, but the longer you can hold the more you'll come down. (You might also have success doing a couple shorter 5-second holds, or a bunch of quick 1-second holds)
  2. Think: Think about something else.
  3. Avoid: Change your stroke (avoid the head) instead of stopping entirely.
  4. Breathe: Take deep, diaphragmatic (with your stomach) breaths.

Ideally, you should combine all of them to get better control over your ejaculation, but start with one and then add others in until the technique becomes second nature.

Set aside 20 minutes a night for this kind of practice. The more the better.

If you have a partner you'd rather do this with, tell her what you're working on, and ask her to help you either with manual/mouth stimulation or by having slow sex with a lot of stopping and starting.

It will be very tempting to just let yourself go when you're hitting those 9.5 peaks, but trust me, exercising like this will be worth it.

Plus it's a lot of fun.

Step 3: Techniques for Lasting Longer During Sex

If you've been doing your training, then you're already going to last much longer in bed.

But we can layer more on top of it. These next four strategies will significantly improve your staying power, just by taking the same principles we've been using for masturbation to the bedroom

Strategic Foreplay Ordering

Foreplay frequently goes in this order, because women typically expect men to initiate the next stage of sex:

Kissing / touching -> Cunnilingus -> Fellatio -> Sex

There's an obvious problem though: you're going straight from intense oral stimulation to sex.

That's no bueno. You want to be going into sex at a 4 or 5, not at an 8.

Here's what you do. You're already talking to your partner about lasting longer (unless you skipped down here, shame on you), so tell her that it'd be better if you got her off once manually (to get her warmed up more), then she went down on you, then you went down on her after.

Kissing / touching -> Get her off once manually -> Fellatio -> Cunnilingus -> Sex

When you're receiving oral, after you get to 9.5 a couple times (same edging technique as before, just this time you yell "stop" at the peaks), switch it up so you can cool down while you go down on her and get her off a few times.

Also, tell her to push against your PC muscle (using two or three fingers or a fist works well) while she's going down on you. It makes you last longer and feels great, but it's hard to do during actual sex.

Then, when you've peaked enough times, getting a cooldown period with minimal stimulation while going down on her will increase how long you last significantly.

Alternatively, depending on how long your refractory periods are, you could get off when she's going down on you then recover for round two (which lasts longer) while going down on her. Up to you.

Use Sex Positions for Edging

Edging during foreplay is easy, but during sex it's a little different. You don't want to keep stopping and starting thrusting since that's going to be frustrating for her, and it'll give you performance anxiety from worrying about cumming too soon.

Instead, you can edge yourself during sex by switching up your positions.

Some positions will move you up arousal stages faster. Others, less so. It's a combination of:

  1. Friction (more = faster)
  2. Direction of motion (thrusting = faster, back and forth = slower)
  3. Control (you moving = faster, her moving = slower)
  4. Your position (standing = slowest, supporting with your arms (e.g. missionary) = fastest)

A position with her legs more closed (more friction) plus you doing the thrusting while lying down (e.g. missionary) will be high stimulation and get you off faster.

But a position with her legs spread and you standing or kneeling will have less stimulation. Same story if she's on top of you moving back and forth instead of up and down.

(If you're not sure what I mean by "back and forth" (vs "thrusting") well… this is the only way to explain it (NSFW).)

You need to find your "low stim" and "high stim" positions. Get in the high stim positions when you're at a 5 or 6, then switch to low stim positions when you're at an 8 or 9 to bring it back down.

And while you're switching, take a few seconds to squeeze your PC muscles!

Breathing Slowly from Your Diaphragm

The way you breathe also affects how quickly you ejaculate.

You've heard about how you can trick yourself into being happier by making yourself smile, right? Well, you can also make yourself more or less aroused by changing your breathing.

If you want to be less aroused and feel less anxious, slow your breathing and make sure you're taking deep belly breaths with your diaphragm. Taking quick breaths in your shoulders and chest is what you do when you're about to cum, so if you're doing that, your body thinks you're close.

Breathe like you're fine and you'll become fine.

Last Second Squeeze When You Get Too Close

Those first three tips will help you stay in the 5-9 range. But what happens when you get to 9.9 and you don't think there's any way to stop yourself from cumming?

This is what training those PC muscles has led to.

Assuming you've gotten them strong enough, all you need to do to bring yourself back from that "point of no return" is stop thrusting and clamp HARD like a long kegel hold (or a combination of shorter ones if you found that worked better for you).

The longer you squeeze, the more you'll come down. With practice, you can take yourself from a 9.9 to a 6 or 7 in a few seconds, and add another ~5 minutes to your sex.

Here's the catch, though. It works better the closer you are to cumming when you do it, so you're going to have some misfires. But with practice, you'll start noticing when is the right time to squeeze, and you'll get better and better at pulling yourself back from the edge.

And what about the other squeeze technique? Where you grip the head or shaft of your penis and squeeze it to restrict blood flow and bring yourself down? You can use that as well, but it creates more of an interruption and it's hard to argue that it's good for you. Try the kegel squeeze first.

Go Forth…

That's it. One psychological change, two exercises to keep you in good sexual shape, three techniques to manage how quickly you heat up, and the last second squeeze to bring you back. That's all you need to control premature ejaculation and have great sex.

It's just a matter of execution. Do the exercises, be open with your partner about what you're working on, and you'll see results in less than a month.

Last thing, this is the first article in a series. The next article is about how to have multiple non-ejaculatory orgasms as a guy, have fun with it!

What Are the Best Paint Colors to Use in a Kitchen?

Jason Briscoe/Unsplash

For many people, the kitchen is the heart of the home. It's where you start your busy day and where you unwind with a good meal — and maybe a glass of wine — in the evening. It's where you make breakfast for your kids on busy school mornings and where you enjoy dinner with the special people in your life on the weekend. It's also the spot for finding healthy snacks and comfort foods, depending on your mood.

So, obviously your kitchen is a very special room, which means it deserves some very special consideration when it's time for an upgrade. Choosing the perfect paint color is an ideal starting point — and an important one. While you can obviously select any color you want for your kitchen, HGTV recommends white, gray, blue, green, yellow or red. Let's take a look at why each color works so well in the most important room in the house.

White

According to HGTV, a white kitchen feels clean, fresh and energizing . The bright look can help wake you up in the morning when the sun starts shining on the white paint, but the neutral color also offers a number of other benefits. First, the color is extremely versatile as part of a color scheme. You can paint your cabinets and other accents almost any color when you have a white backdrop. A white kitchen can also open up a small space , making it feel larger, and it can brighten a dark room that doesn't see much natural light.

Finally, white not only feels clean, but it's easy to see when the walls are dirty, so you can keep the room where you prepare all your food as sanitary as possible. Just don't make the mistake of assuming white is a one-size-fits-all color. You can customize your kitchen even further by choosing a shade of white that has red, yellow, green, blue or other color undertones to warm up or cool down your space.

Red

You may have noticed that many of your favorite restaurants use red paint as part of their decor. That's because this warm color is believed to stimulate the appetite. Cooking is also the color of passion . For this reason, many feel that it's also a wonderful color to paint their own kitchens.

Not only does red make a good wall color, but it also pairs well with more neutral colors, like white and gray, which is important if you want to paint your cabinets and other fixtures red. The vibrant color also comes in many shades. For a sleek look, consider a semi-gloss candy apple red, or for a more rustic look, choose a shade of red that has some hints of orange mixed in with it.

Blue or Green

Blue and green are both tranquil, calming colors that are frequently found in nature. Both are good choices for painting a kitchen, especially if your kitchen is a place where you like to relax and spend your downtime. Like red, green and blue come in a variety of shades that you can use as accent colors for your walls, cabinets and other fixtures.

Keep in mind that darker shades of blue can overpower a room very easily, but they look good in a kitchen with white fixtures. Lighter blues can soften your kitchen and make it feel brighter and bigger. Green shades tend to look good with natural wood cabinets and fixtures.

Yellow

Yellow kitchens tend to feel happy, cheerful and sunny, and according to Real Simple, homes with yellow kitchens even sell for higher prices than those with other colors. The warm color is versatile enough to use in a rustic cottage as well as an industrial condo, and it can really create some excitement in an otherwise boring space.

Like red, yellow sees a lot of action in restaurants. These businesses often use yellow because the color is thought to stimulate the appetite and increase the amount of serotonin — the hormone that makes you feel euphoric — in your body.

Gray

If you're bored with white but still want a neutral color, HGTV recommends searching for an appealing shade of gray. Like white, gray pairs well with other colors, allowing you to get creative with cabinets, counters and other fixtures. Besides being one of the most versatile colors you can paint your kitchen, gray can help you bring together various textures, create a clean look and reduce shine and glare on your surfaces.

These small bedroom ideas will help you make the best use of available space without compromising on style.

WALL HUNG

Consider fitting a wall of shelving to keep books, paperwork and accessories neatly in one place (above). A monochrome scheme can work in a compact area when there is plenty of natural light and the balance of dark and pale colours is about equal. In an open-plan space, linen curtains can be hung from a rail attached to the ceiling to provide a sense of privacy. When the floor area is limited, use vertical space for storage. Look for options like a slim wardrobe with both drawers and hanging space, a tall chest of drawers and a compact bedside table with storage. Handle-less designs give a streamlined look. A clever use of colour can make a dramatic difference to the look of a small room. It's generally safer to stick to a pale palette, especially when natural light is limited. Red Bedroom Wall Art

Red Bedroom Wall Art

Picking the right bedroom wall art is as important as the wall color, bedroom furniture, and the bedding for creating the right mood in the bedroom.

Your bedroom is your private oasis. A place to relax, unwind and enjoy the finer things in the night. That's why – when redecorating a bedroom – picking the decor & color schemes are equally important parts of creating your personal oasis.

Do you want your bedroom to feel calm, comforting, or serene? Or do you want to infuse a bit more of a playful or sensual vibe? Either way, the right colors, decor accents, and bedroom wall art can make all the difference.

Bedroom wall decor plays a critical role in establishing or maintaining the overall mood in the bedroom. That is why it's important to think about what you are about to hang on the wall.

Selecting Bedroom Wall Art

Picking art for the bedroom is very different from picking art for other rooms in the house. And that is for what should be obvious reasons.

For one, the way we use a bedroom is quite different from how we tend to use a living room. Or a den. Or a kitchen. The list goes on! Bedrooms – as the name implies – are all centered around activities that happen in and around the bed.

Sleep is the #1 activity that happens in the bedroom, but it is not alone. Without going into details, suffice it to say that what one does in a bedroom is rarely the same as what one does in the kitchen. Rarely.

Setting the mood with bedroom wall art

Picking the right bedroom art helps reinforce the overall mood that you want to set for that space. That can be a relaxing retreat that you can escape to after a long, hard day. Or the passion-filled loved nest normally reserved for honeymooners. Or the quaint and playful innocence of a child's bedroom. And we won't even touch on the issues of art for a teen's bedroom… because there really is very little hope there.

That being said, in most cases, art should be selected with the idea of being aesthetically pleasing while also helping to ease the mind into a restful state. That is why big, bold, engaging artworks may not always be right for the bedroom.

But it does depend. It always depends.

That's why no hard and fast set of rules can ever apply, to practically anything decor-related. Because it always depends.

Setting the Right Mood with Bedroom Wall Art

The color, size, style, and style of the bedroom art you select directly correlates to the mood you want to set in that space.

Bedroom decor most often centers around 1 of 3 key themes:

Tranquility

Tranquil Bedroom Decor
A tranquil blue bedroom is accented with a simple yet effective semicolon, which is symbolic of taking a long pause before continuing.

Using your bedroom as a serene oasis requires careful thought about the colors, bedroom art, linens, and other decor accents.

"Much also depends on how much light you already have coming into the bedroom. For example, you may wish to tone the colors down if there's plenty of sun – unless, of course, you would like it to be particularly bright!" comments Ruban Selvanayagam of the real estate auction firm based in the UK, Property Solvers.

Traditional art choices for a tranquil bedroom include landscapes, garden scenes, botanical images, and ocean views. But simple graphic art pieces work as well. These types of images convey a sense of peace and calm that is often desired in a space dedicated to taking a pause to sleep and relax.

Passion

Passionate Bedroom Decor
In this luxurious bedroom designed by Duncan Hughes Interiors, passion is infused through colors and textiles.

Creating a sense of passion in the bedroom can be assisted by installing the right piece of artwork. Things with deep, rich reds or erotic (but not raunchy) portraits can help create the right mood for the lovers' bedroom.

It's important to stay classy, especially if your bedroom is visible to guests making a quick trip to the bathroom. But it's easier to take more aesthetic risks in order to achieve a particular mood in the privacy of your own bedroom.

Playfulness

Playful Bedroom Decor
The adorable forest created above the Daybed helps create a very playful but sophisticated look. Such fun!

Although most often associated with children's bedrooms, a playful feeling in a bedroom usually centers around cute, fun colors and characters that remind us of the innocence of youth.

A joyful expression of color and imagery, these spaces are a bit livelier than your traditional bedroom but can be very pleasantly put together.

Escape

Creating an Oasis to Escape To
This coastal-inspired bedroom includes a perfectly themed photographic print that really sets the mood in this room.

Similar in concept, but with slight variations, the concept of Escape in the bedroom is to make the space a very different "world" where you can get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Bedroom wall art in an escape-centric theme often includes scenic photography, landscape paintings, or abstract art that has a distinct perspective of getting away from it all.

Whatever mood you are trying to convey, make sure you pick the right piece of bedroom wall art to convey that mood and avoid things that contradict that mood… no matter how cool you may think they are.

For example, whatever your decor mood, you probably want to avoid selecting pieces of Medieval art that feature particularly bloody acts of violence, as it may not set the right mood in a bedroom. The same would apply – in less extreme ways – to extremely bold and dramatic abstract pieces that are created with the intention of making the viewer think about what they're looking at.

These guidelines get even blurrier when a bedroom serves multiple purposes. For example, a bedroom that also serves as a home office will need a slightly different mood that translates from day to night.

In the end, decide what mood you want to set in your bedroom and use that as a guide to help you pick bedroom wall art that helps tell that story.

Bedroom Art Colors

Picking Bedroom Wall Art Colors

A recent article on the psychology of color in the bedroom showed how the color you select for your bedroom can have a direct impact on the overall feel and mood of the room. This also applies to bedroom wall art.

Remembering back (a few paragraphs ago) to the different mood types in a bedroom, this color psychology can be applied to each.

For most tranquil bedroom art applications, you will use softer and more serene colors, including blue & green, in your overall bedroom decor scheme as well as your bedroom art. That doesn't mean that you can't add a small pop of red or pink into an otherwise serene room to add interest, just don't overdo it. You don't want people yelling "Redrum, Redrum!!!" every time they see your entirely red bedroom.

Color Psychology Profiles & How They Apply to Bedroom Art

  • Blue:Tranquility, serenity, and trust
  • Green:Nature, balance, and harmony
  • Yellow:  Energy and attention
  • Orange:  Creativity, warmth, and socialization
  • Brown: Reliability and strength
  • Red:  Passion, romance, and adventure
  • Pink:  Sweetness, femininity, and calm
  • Lilac:Spirituality and creativity
  • Black: Strength and protection

It is also best to coordinate your bedroom wall art with the existing colors in your bedroom to maintain that sense of ease and calm. Many different colors and patterns – while providing visual interest – will fight against the tranquil mood you are trying to set.

Red is – and probably always will be – known as the color of passion. So to create a bit of romantic flavor in your bedroom, add some wall art that has strong red influences.

Kids' bedrooms love the use of bright, playful colors including blue, yellow, pink, and green – particularly the bright or primary versions. These keep the space lively and entertaining but are not too overwhelming that you end up having trouble getting the little one off to bed each night. Nobody wants that, no matter how beautiful the room might look.

Black and white bedroom art is often used to create unique visual spaces that can be used to set a mood of escaping the otherwise bright and vivid world. Interesting but subdued black and white photography does a beautiful job of creating that sense of escape. I especially love the aleatoric photography of J Coleman Miller for this exact purpose. Some of his images are otherworldly without being overwhelming.

Bedroom Art Sizes

The Right Size for Bedroom Wall Art

According to the experts at The Spruce, large-scale pieces are the best for hanging in the bedroom and should be placed at eye level either directly above the bed or on the opposite wall. Collections of smaller art pieces – particularly those that vary in colors, sizes, or subject matter – should be kept at a minimum because they can be too visually stimulating to work in the bedroom space.

If you want to install an art series, try to keep the number of pieces limited and make sure the individual pieces coordinate in both theme and color. It's not so much the number of pieces as the change in visual themes that creates the busy sense of clutter that you don't want in the bedroom.

I've seen stunning installations of a dozen animal sketches in a little girl's bedroom that works perfectly, and I've seen a single, absolutely stunning canvas art piece take the entire art focus in a single bedroom. Both can work when executed correctly.

But your bedroom is not the right place for your family photos or an eclectic gallery wall of postcards you've collected during your world travels. Put those in the den or the office instead.

Bedroom Art Styles

Once again, the style or subject of the artwork depends a lot on what kind of mood you are trying to set with the decor.

Landscapes, ocean views, sweeping abstracts, and soft-focus and de-saturated photos tend to work best in a tranquil bedroom because of their overall calming feel. To maintain a sense of serenity, you want something that appeals to you visually but doesn't challenge you to think too much about the piece.

For example, I have two of Claude Monet's most famous works in my bedroom, and – for me – the mixture of the floral influences, the unique landscape views, the impressionist style, and the colors he used in his artworks work perfectly for my tranquil bedroom.

In the guest room, I've used something more abstract because it has a broader appeal to a wider variety of potential guests. But because I am still trying to achieve a look that borders between Escape and Tranquility, the patterns remain subdued and the colors are coordinated to the rest of the room.

For a passionate bedroom, big, bold canvas wall artworks beautifully because of how well the artist's passion can be translated through furious brushstrokes and rich colors. Subtly erotic black and white photography also do a lovely job of setting the stage for passion without being overbearing about it. Nobody likes a pushy bedroom!

And anything goes in the playful space, as long as it is fun and unique!

Bedroom Art Types

Bedroom Art Types

There is a wide range of art that can appropriately suit a bedroom. From canvas paintings to photographic prints, to art plaques and more.

One of my personal favorites is the beautifully woven tapestry wall hanging. I love the visual look of a tapestry. I also love the tactile feel of the woven artwork. Plus, there is the acoustic benefit of sound-dampening fabric.

You might instantly picture a medieval tapestry in an old-time castle when you think of tapestry wall hangings. But these intricately woven art pieces are available in a variety of styles, sizes, and colors.

For children's bedrooms, try to break the norm with wall stickers, murals, or more visually interesting but not overpowering items.

Metal wall art can also find a comfortable home inside the bedroom. This is particularly true if it picks up on a pattern or texture that already exists in your bedroom. For example, a metal scrollwork panel that beautifully mimics the texture of your bedding would be an excellent choice.

However, one type of wall decor that we would not recommend for a bedroom is a decorative wall clock. As much as they can be beautiful to look at, nobody likes an oversized reminder of how little time there is between finally going to bed and dragging yourself out of it in the morning. Nobody. Not even the crazy person who hung the "The Nightmare" on their bedroom wall, and that person is bat-sh*t crazy!

Picking Bedroom Wall Art That Is Right for You

Picking Bedroom Wall Art That Is Right For You

In the end, art is subjective. The most important thing is that you pick a piece of bedroom wall art that you will appreciate and enjoy.

Art is – among other things – a direct extension of your personal style.  No rules, tips, or tricks can or should override your own sense of self. The most important thing is that the bedroom art you pick is something you will enjoy looking at. You want something you don't mind seeing every night as you go to bed and every morning when you leave it.

And, final note:  No – no matter how much we all enjoy a good Netflix binge session, a flat-screen TV mounted on the wall does not count as "functional art."

Sorry about that!
